We're sad to report that the WBO Bantamweight title bout between Filipino Marlon Tapales (29-2, 12) and unbeaten Japanese youngster Takuma Inoue (8-0, 2) [井上 拓真] has been cancelled, following this week's official announcement of the bout.
The bout, which was officially announced on Tuesday, has been cancelled due to a hand injury suffered by Inoue in training, who is said to have been in agony due to the damage to his right hand.
There has been no comment on the bout being rescheduled for 2017, but we do know that it's not going to be taking place on December 30th as originally announced. Instead Takuma will focus on his recovery and will be trying to secure another opportunity at the top tier in the new year.
The decision to cancel the bout is said to have been agonising for both Takuma and promoter Hideyuki Ohashi
