On July 6th we see Japanese youngster Takuma Inoue (4-0, 1) fight in his first title fight, as the battles experienced Filipino Mark Anthony Geraldo (31-5-3, 14) for the vacant OPBF Super Flyweight title. On paper it's a hugely intriguing bout between two young and talented fighters, though fighters with hugely differing professional experience and it's a bout that could, potentially, move the winner onto a world title fight before the end of the year.
Whilst the bout does look like a great one on paper it does seem like a bout that you need to favour Takuma as the favourite in. Despite that we were surprised to see that British bookies Paddy Power, who are currently the only ones taking bets on the bout, have made Takuma a major favourite at 1/7 whilst Geraldo has been given virtually no chance at 5/1.
The bout is almost certainly going to be Takuma's toughest so far and sees him jumping from fighting in 8 rounders to 12. Those extra rounds and his "lack of experience" could be an issue and would certainly stop us backing him at those odds. That's not to say we'd bet against him but that we do think those odds fail to reflect the real questions that the Japanese youngster could be asked by his talented Filipino foe.
Whilst we expect video to emerge of the fight within 72 hours of the bout taking place we do, unfortunately know that fans have to wait until July 18th for the fight to be broadcast on TV, when it will be aired on Fuji TV.
Takuma Inoue looks to prove himself in first title bout, but will he over-come Mark Anthony Geraldo?
