On July 15th we'll see Takashi Miura (31-3-2, 24) [三浦 隆司] attempt to become a 2-time world champion as he takes on once beaten boxer-puncher Miguel Berchelt (31-1, 28) in the US, in what coyuld potentially be another FOTY contender featuring Miura who has been in thrillers with Sergio Thompson and Francisco Vargas.
Yesterday saw Miura's training camp for the bout pick up as he took part in his first sparring session for the contest, spending 4 rounds against a Filipino sparring partner at the Teiken gym.
The spar didn't see an ultra-sharp Miura, but by the end of the session it was clear he was getting into the swing of things and was finding his groove. Although not looking at his best it's clear this was quite early into his camp and he has a lot of time to work on the issue that were holding him back here, and for a man who hasn't recently he did look in good form.
At the moment he's about 18lbs over the Super Featherweight limit, but that's not viewed as anything abnormal and he's expecting the weight to come off with normal training and will be strenghtening his core as the camp goes on.
