We've known for a whilst that that former world champions Takashi Miura (29-3-2, 22) [三浦 隆司] and Toshiyuki Igarashi (21-2-2, 11) [五十嵐 俊幸] would be in the ring on May 7th, with both fighting at the Korakuen Hall in bouts to be shown on G+. Today we were given the names of their opponents.
Miura, the former WBC Super Featherweight champion, will be facing off against Filipino Lightweight Jonel Gadapan (11-8-2, 7). The bout isn't a hugely exciting one on paper, especially not when you look through Gadapan's record and see 6 stoppage losses, however it's a fine comeback bout for Miura following his hellacious war last year with Francisco Vargas, and it's a bout that follows Gadapan's best win, a 6th round victory over Nelson Tinampay in January.
The exciting Miura will be looking to make a statement against Gadapan, who will be appearing in a Japanese ring for the 4th time, and then seek a rematch with Vargas later in the year. Interestingly this bout has been made at a contracted 133lbs.
As for Igarashi he will be up against the light punching Joel Taduran (7-2-1, 1). The 21 year old Filipino has typically been making his name at Minimumweight but will be competing at a contracted 113lbs for this contest against Igarashi, who is himself dropping down from Super Flyweight.
Igarashi's recent bouts have been marred with headclashes with 3 of his last 4 bouts ending in technical decisions. He is however unbeaten since suffering a decision loss to Akira Yaegasghi more than 3 years ago. As for Taduran he is on a 7 fight unbeaten run, with one of those bouts ending following a headclash. Don't be surprised to see the heads come into play again here.
