Yesterday night in the US saw the weigh in for Saturday night fights, including a very attractive WBC Super Featherweight title bout between defending champion Takashi Miura (29-2-2, 22) and unbeaten Mexican Francisco Vargas (22-0-1, 16). The bout, which is a mandatory for Miura, looks to be one of those must-watch contests with hardcore fight fans already expecting it to be something very special.
On the scales Miura was the heavier man, weighing in at the divisional limit of 130lbs. That weight has been his norm recently and is what he has weighed in at for 4 of his last 5 bouts.
Vargas on the other hand was 129½lbs, the same weight that he was for his recent 8th round TKO win over Will Tomlinson.
Interestingly since we last looked at the odds we have spotted one bookmaker making Miura a 17/12 under-dog, though most appear to have the bout pegged as a true 50-50 contest. Though Vargas by TKO/KO/DQ is priced at around 2/1 whilst Miura by TKO/KO/DQ is 3/1 which appears to be one of the bets of the weekend.
Miura and Vargas, likely to bring fireworks to the Mandalay Bay!
