Earlier today at the press conference for the WBC Bantamweight world title fight between defending champion Shinsuke Yamanaka (21-0-2, 16) and Thailand's Suriyan Sor Rungvisai (37-5-1, 16). The conference, the final time the fighters will meet before the weigh in tomorrow, saw controversy arise as Suriyan demanded to have gloves in black, the same as Yamanaka. Prior to the press conference it appeared that the Thai was going to be wearing blue gloves.
The demand seemed to have been done with the aim of unsettling Yamanaka though the Japanese fighter seemed to spend much of the press conference looking incredibly bored.
Suriyan's camp defended the move with wanting to be equal with the champion though we're unsure if there was any real claim to wanting to be equal rather than just wanting to play mind games.
We're unsure what was actually agreed at the end though a quote from Yamanaka suggests he was happy to agree to the demand with his only aim being to get in the ring and score his 7th world title defense and seek a 6th straight stoppage victory, tying the long standing Japanese record of Yoko Gushiken.
