Earlier today Ohashi announce that thier Olympic medal winner Satoshi Shimizu (1-0, 1) [清水 聡] would be returning to the ring on December 30th to fight for the second time as a professional.
Shimizu's opponent hasn't yet been announced but we do know that he will be in a 6 rounder with the hope being that next year he will step up massively and start fighting against some known quantities, with a "big fight" expected at some point in the year.
If we're being honest we weren't hugely impressed by Shimizu's debut, though his opponent was terrible and we don't think anything Shimizu could have done anything to actually blow us away. He looked sharp but he still had real issues with things like balance, and was fighting a much smaller man.
Hopefully his December opponent will be announced shortly and we'll see him make clear steps up in class in 2017 with the potential of fighting for titles before the year is over. It's too early to imagine him in a world title fight, but there is a good chance he could fight for a WBO Asia Pacific, Japanese or OPBF title before the year is over.
