Just over 2 weeks ago we reported that IBF Minimumweight champion Katsunari Takayama (29-7-0-2, 11) and would be defending his title against fellow Japanese fighter Ryuji Hara (19-1, 11). Following that report things went eerily quiet on the story and there was almost no word at all from Japan regarding the bout which appeared to be one of the many bouts that just vanished without a trace.
That was until this past Wednesday when there was a post on the Ryuji Hara support association blog to announce the bout.
The post stated that Hara would indeed be facing Takayama on September 27th at the Prefectural Gymnasium in Osaka. The post didn't confirm all the details that we'd reported but it does seem that everything is right and that the fight will be the co-feature of the upcoming Ioka show, headlined by Kazuto Ioka's (17-1, 10) WBA Flyweight title defence against Roberto Domingo Sosa (26-2-1, 14).
From what we understand the bout will be aired on TBS as part of the Ioka show.
Although we're still awaiting the actual press announcement of the bout it does seem almost certain to be announced in the next few days.
Amazingly this will be one of 4 title bouts on the show. Obviously there will be the Ioka/Sosa bout, but there will also be a Japanese Super Flyweight bout between defending champion Sho Ishida (19-0, 10) and Hayato Kimura (23-7, 15) as well as a female OPBF Light Flyweight title bout between defending champion Kei Takenaka (9-0, 3) and Thailand's Krikanok Islandmuaythai (4-4-1, 2).
Fore those unaware, the support association is essentially a group that has very close ties to the fighters and helps sell tickets and drum up support on the fighter's behalf.
