Fighters failing to make weight has been an issue in recent years, with numerous fighters failign to make the contracted weigfht and forcing bouts to be cancelled. The lastest bout to fall afoul of this trend has been the IBF Super Bantamweight world title eliminator that was set to take place later today.
The bout in question was set to see Ryosuke Iwasa (22-2, 14) [岩佐 亮佑] battle the unbeaten Luis Rosa (22-0-0-2, 10) in Connecticut but unfortunately Rosa has failed to make weight for the weight.
Originally Rose scaled 125lbs and was given addittional time to lose the weight for the bout, which was set to take place at 122lbs. He could only lose 1lb and failed to even come within touching distance of the weight limit forcing the bout to be cancelled.
Sadly this leaves Iwasa's journey to the US being a waste of time, and even more so given that he was 121lbs on the scales and looked in great condition having put in a fantastic camp.
The cancellation of the bout leaves the status of Iwasa's next bout as being unclear though it is likely that he will continue to chase a Super Bantamweight world title, whilst Rosa is likely to be fighting as a Featherweight going forward.
