Earlier this year we reported that Japan's Ryosuke Iwasa (20-2, 12) [岩佐 亮佑] would be returning to the ring on February 6th. When we reported that we were unaware of his opponent, though today we learned that he would be facing Filipino fighter Dennis Tubieron (19-6-2, 8) in a bout between two fighters who suffered loss, in the UK last year.
Iwasa's loss last year was the more notable of the two with "Eagle Eye" suffering a stoppage loss in an IBF interim Bantamweight title to Lee Haskins, who was later upgraded to the IBF's regular champion. The loss was Iwasa's second defeat and saw an 11 fight winning streak come to and end. Since that loss the Japanese fighter has fought once, taking a technical decision win over Marlon Arcilla.
As for Tubieron he was actually in the UK twice last year suffering a decision loss to the unbeaten Josh Warrington and then being blasted out, in a single round, by Mitchell Smith. Since those losses he has suffered a third successive defeat, losing a decision to Takafumi Nakajima. That loss to Nakajima saw Tubieron going 4 successive bouts without a win.
Notably this bout will be taking place at Featherweight, with Iwasa fighting at his highest weight so far whilst Tubieron will be returning to the weight that he fought Warrington at.
This bout will be the main event bout of a Dynamic Glove card and will take place at the Korakuen Hall.
