Earlier this year we saw Kosei Tanaka (5-0, 2) show off his impressive skills as he claimed the WBO Minimumweight title, out pointing Julian Yedras. Over the past weekend we saw his older brother, Ryomei Tanaka, continue the families success as he claimed a Gold medal at the Test Event for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The event, held in Rio, saw Tanaka stopping local star Julio Neto in the final to claim the gold medal in the 52KG category. The win was one of 4 for Asian fighters, and the only for Japan, who had a respectable tournament overall.
The other Asian winners were Uzbekistan's Hasanboy Dusmatov, at 49KG his countryman Murodjon Akhmadaliev, at 56KG's and Thailand's Saylom Ardee, at 69KG's.
Whilst this may have been in the amateur ranks there is a high expectation that Tanaka will follow his brother and turn professional next year, probably being fast tracked like Kosei.
