Over the past few days we had been hearing rumours regarding the next bout of hot tipped Japanese youngster Ryo Matsumoto (14-0, 12) being in action on August 20th. We can now safely say that Matsumoto will indeed be in action on that date as he fights on the under-card of Satoshi Hosono's upcoming Japanese Featherweight title bout.
At the moment Matsumoto's opponent hasn't been named but the unbeaten 21 year old has mentioned that it will be an "interesting" fight on his own blog suggesting that it won't be a relatively pointless one, like his last bout against Thanuthong Chor Kangwal. We're not expecting a big name but hopefully an interesting opponent will be brought over for the promising Bantamweight.
Whilst we are hoping for a good opponent we know we can rule out WBA Bantamweight "super" champion Juan Carlos Payano Juan Carlos Payano (16-0, 8), who we now know will be defending his title on August 2nd in Florida, USA. A bout between Matsumoto and Payano was mentioned earlier this year though it appears Payano was given a more attractive option to defend his belt in the US instead.
