Earlier this week it was revealed that Hong Kong star Rex Tso (20-0, 12) [曹星如] will return to the ring on March 11th, though his opponent for that bout will not be announced until later in January. The unbeaten Tso, now ranked #1 by the WBO and is the prime contender for Japanese sensation Naoya Inoue, had the date revealed along with the news that he had signed a 1 year contract extention with Top Rank.
Whilst details of the bout aren't well known as of yet it is thought that the bout will Tso back at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center and could be against a notable fringe contender as Tso looks to prepare for an eventual world title fight.
According to sources in Hong Kong there is talk of Tso facing Inoue, or, if Inoue vacates, a bout with Juan Hernandez. The Hernandez bout is highly unlikely given that the Mexican is currently booked in for a WBC Flyweight title fight against Nawaphon Por Chokchai, essentially opening the door to a potential high octane war between Tso and British fighter Jamie Conlan, who is ranked #3 by the WBO.
With Top Rank behind Tso, and Frank Warren behind Jamie Conlan, there may well end up being a super-show of sorts taking place in Asia later this year, with the two men also said to be in talks for a Middlewieght title fight between Ryota Murata and Billy Joe Saunders.
Also slated for the same March card as Tso Vs TBA is Raymond Poon KaiChing (2-0, 1), another Hong Kong fighter who is looking to raise through the ranks at Light Flyweight. As with Tso his opponent has yet to be announced.
