Earlier today we stumbled upon the poster for the 54th Phoenix Battle, the show which is set to be headlined by Japanese teenager Takuma Inoue (4-0, 1).
We've known for several weeks now that Inoue, the younger brother of the sensational Naoya Inoue, would be fighting on July 6th against Mark Anthony Geraldo (31-5-3, 14) sadly however we had no idea about anything else on the card. Other than things we could rule out, for example it was clear Naoya wouldn't be on the card.
Today we got not only the poster but some details on the under-card with two bouts being mentioned as being on the card as support bouts.
One off the two under-card bouts will see world ranked Super Flyweight Go Onaga (24-2-2, 17) staying busy with a bout against domestic journeyman Masafumi Otake (14-13-3, 7). Onaga has expressed an interest in travelling for a shot at the IBF world title later in the year though knows he'll have to wait. This bout is a ticking over contest for him though he'll be hoping to end the year with a big bout of some kind.
The other bout looks to be a much more interesting match up with Kenichi Miyazaki (8-1-1, 2) being pitted against Kazuhiro Nakamura (9-5, 3). On paper fans may think this is a bit of a mismatch but Nakamura has mixed in decent domestic company, including a close loss to Hiroya Yamamoto.
At the moment we're awaiting full details on the card but it is looking like there will be some decent support to Takuma in what will be his first bout as the main event of a show.
