Earlier today we were informed of two things in regards to the March 20th card being promoted by Morioka Gym.
Firstly we learned that Morioka's star student Hinata Maruta (1-0) [丸田 陽七太] wouldn't be getting a major test when he returns to the ring for his first bout of the new year. Instead he will be facing unknown Thai Krungsing Kaolamlekgym (0-0), who we know nothing at all about unfortunately, though we do suspect his record on boxrec is incomplete.
Given that Maruta, who debuted last November, faced Jason Canoy in his first professional bout this is a slightly disappointing move from his team, but an understandable one given that the youngster does need time to get some professional experience under his belt and try to figure out if his immediate future is at 118lbs or 122lb, rather than fighting between the two divisions. There is some suggestion that Maruta's team will try to see if their guy can make 118lbs for the bout and that's the purpose of the relatively underwhelming opponent.
The other thing we were informed of is the poster for the show, which can be seen to the side and features not only Maruta but also former world title challenger Hirofumi Mukai (11-4-2, 1) [向井 寛史] and Maruta's gym buddies Brandon Lockhart Shane (6-4, 5), who came runner up in the 2015 All Japan Rookie of the Year at Middleweight, and Kazuma Fukuyama (5-6-3) [福山 一磨], who we believe will be fighting a stablemate of the Thai facing Maruta.
For those who missed Maruta's debut we have included it below.
