Over this past weekend Ohashi Gym published the poster for their upcoming show at the end of October. The show, "Phoenix Battle 52" is one we've been excited about the moment we knew of it's main event, in fact it's a show that excited us the very second we stumbled on Ryuji Hara's blog post about the main bout.
The exciting main event will see aforementioned Hara (18-0, 10) defending his OPBF Minimumweight title against compatriot, and super prospect, Kosei Tanaka (3-0, 1). The risk for both is huge with Tanaka obviously taking a huge step up in class from his previous 3 bouts whilst Hara is risking his belt and world rankings, with all 4 organisations. It is one of those rare bouts that combines danger from both men with real electricity and excitement from the hardcore boxing community, and of course Japanese fans who know how good of a match up this is with out us needing to say a word.
Since turning professional late last year Tanaka has always been on the fast track and his manager, Kiyoshi Hatanaka, seemed to suggest that Tanaka could get a world title as quicker than Naoaya Inoue. As we all know Inoue took 6 fights to win a world crown, stopping Adrian Hernandez for the WBC Light Flyweight title, and if Tanaka beats Hara, incidentally a stable mate of Inoue, then it would the rising teenage could well be able to win a world crown in fight #5 a very impressive feat.
Hara himself will of course have something to say about Tanaka's rise to the top. Afterall Hara has worled extremely hard to get where he is in the sport winning both the Japanese and OPBF titles en route to claiming his world rankings. A loss here for Hara would be a huge set back given that he has already been a professional for 4 years.
For fans who want to see prospects tested this bout should be right down your alley and has the potential to really help make a star and to finish October in sensational fashion.
For those wondering our preview of this bout will be up about a week before the bout, which is now just a month away. Between now and then however we have a lot to be looking forward to as the sport seems to really go into over-drive during an incredible October!
