Earlier today it was announced that Thailand's Palangpol CP Freshmart (10-1, 7) [คู่เอก พลังพล ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท] would be returning to the ring on February 19th to defend his WBA Asia Light Flyweight title against Filipino Roque Lauro (13-16-5, 3).
On paper the bout looks like a mismatch with the talented Palangpol being hotly tipped as a potential world champion. The truth however is that whilst Palangpol should be favoured, especially considered his outstanding background in Muay Thai, Lauro is a better fighter than his record suggests and is unbeaten in his last 5 bouts, with 3 wins coming in Japan and a win over recent world title challenger Young Gil Bae, with that win coming in Korea.
The bout will be shown on Channel 7 and it's thought that if Palangpol wins his team will push for him to get an IBF Minimumweight title bout later in the year, with Galaxy Promotion stating their hope was to have all 4 Minimumweight titles held by fighters in their stable. At the moment they have the WBC title, which is held by Wanheng Menayothin [วันเฮง ไก่ย่างห้าดาวยิม] and the WBA title, held by Knockout CP Freshmart [น็อคเอาท์ ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท]
