Over the past few days we've been hearing various rumours to do with the WBO world titles. One of the most interesting concerns unbeaten Thai Paipharob Kokietgym (27-0, 20).
From what our sources have told us the Thai will be given a shot at the WBO Light Flyweight next year irregardless of the result of the upcoming bout between Donnie Nietes (33-1-4, 19), the incumbent champion, and upcoming title challenger Carlos Velarde (26-3-1, 14).
The story from our source is that Nietes is planning for the Velarde bout to be his final Light Flyweight bout before he move to Flyweight, thus if he's successful he will vacate the title and open up the door for the Thai. If Velarde wins however Paipharob is expected to get a shot at the Mexican.
Whilst no date or specifics have been set, the story does seem to be something based in strong facts with the Thai being ranked #1 in the most recent world rankings from the WBO and that ranking is unlikely to change unless something shocking happens to Paipharob between now and early next year.
