Earlier today saw a press conference at the Kaneko Gym which was headed by former Japanese Super Bantamweight champion Hidenori Otake (22-1-3, 9), who will be fighting in Liverpool, England on November 22nd against the unbeaten WBA Super Bantamweight champion Scott Quigg (29-0-2, 22).
The press conference saw some interesting comments from the Japanese fighter who seemed to know more about the champion than we suspect Quigg knows of Otake. This included references to Quigg's style stating that unbeaten British fighter was a heavy handed and had good control of distance. Saying that however Otake also seemed to feel he was better than Quigg in most areas which we suspect is wrong.
It wasn't just the styles of Quigg that Otake was talking about but also how he thinks he'll have to win. He seemed to accept that winning a decision in Britain was difficult, something we have seen numerous times in recent years especially when the fights have been fought on Eddie Hearn shows. Instead of trying to take a decision he has suggest that he will be hunting a stoppage in the second half of the contest. Typically Quigg appears to get stronger in the later rounds so we again wonder if Otake is quite right in his comments.
Another interesting note is that if Otake wins a local beer company in Yokohama will be making a special beer in his honour. I assume if Otake gets the win we can all have a celebratory drink on him!
