Earlier today it was revealed that the WBO purse bids for the upcoming mandatory title fight at Bantamweight between Thai champion Pungluang Sor Singyu (52-3, 35) [ผึ้งหลวง ส.สิงห์อยู่] and Filipino challenger Marlon Tapales (28-2, 11) had been won by Thai promoter Onesongchai.
The bid doesn't appear to have been a monstrous one, with James Goyder reporting that Tapales was set to earn the equivalent of $37,000, , though it is one that has got the fight made, with Goyder reporting that it's set for June 17th, as seen in the embedded tweet.
The fight will be Pungluang's second defense, and follows a technical decision win over another Filipino challenger, Jethro Pabustan. In that bout headclashes marred the action, however against Tapales we're expecting to see a clean, and very exciting bout.
Pungluang won the title last year, claiming it for the second time by stopping Ryo Akaho in Japan. As for Tapalese, he actually became the mandatory by stopping Shohei Omori, in Japan, in a final eliminator., That win opened the door for this bout, and showed that the challenger isn't afraid to go on the road, as the under-dog.
Hopefully we'll see venue, and TV, details released shortly.
Huge thanks to James Goyder for the information regarding this bout.
