On December 31st we'll see former Japanese and OPBF champion Yukinori Oguni (18-1-1, 7) [小國 以載] challenge IBF Super Bantamweight champion Jonathan Guzman (22-0-0-1, 22) in a career defining bout for the Japanese fighter.
As part of Oguni's preparation he has been training with Cuban fighter Yoandris Salinas (21-2-2, 14), who is best known for fighting to a draw with Scott Quigg in 2013 but also holds a draw with current world champion Nehomar Cermeno.
Oguni's team seem to believe that Salinas is similar to Guzman in some ways and should help give Oguni some good preparation for the bout with the big punching Dominican fighter, who claimed his title in Japan earlier this year with a stoppage win against Shingo Wake in a really eye opening performance.
Not only is Salinas someone that Oguni's team feel can replicate Guzman but he has also shared the ring with Guzman before and is said to be giving Oguni tips from sparring sessions with Guzman and passing on facets of Guzman's game to Oguni, which could be more valuable than the actual sparring.
