Tomorrow fight fans in Tokyo will be either tuning in to NTV or in attendance at the OTA City Gymnasium for what looks like one of the best bouts of the year, between Shinsuke Yamanaka and Anselmo Moreno. That main event is genuine fantastic but the chief support bout is also a contest worth making a note of as an unbeaten, and world ranked, fighter takes on one of Japan's most promising young punchers.
The bout in question will see the hard hitting and fast rising Kenichi Ogawa (15-1, 13) take on Colombia's Deivi Julio Bassa (17-0, 10), who is ranked #12 by the WBC at Super Featherweight. The bout is unlikely to feature in the telecast but for fans in attendance this should serve as a brilliant warm up to the main event.
Today both Ogawa and Bassa made weight with Ogawa weighing in at 130¾lbs and Bassa 130½lbs, both inside the 131lbs contracted limit.
Not only did both men make weight but both also seemed very confident and we suspect we'll see Ogawa go out with the intention of not only beating Bassa but also stopping the Colombian, in an attempt to make a genuine statement. That however will be easier said than done.
