Yesterday we reported that there was going to be an announcement regarding an end of year show in Osaka made on Tuesday. The hope was that it was going to be a big one sadly however it wasn't huge. It wasn't massive but it was certainly interesting with the one bout that was announced being a very intriguing one, at least on the Japanese domestic scene.
The bout in question will see Japanese #1 ranked Heavyweight Nobuhiro Ishida (26-10-2, 10) battle against the countries #2 ranked fighter Kotatsu Takehara (10-10-3, 4). Effectively it is an eliminator for the Japanese Heavyweight title and should, if Ishida wins, assure him of a title fight in 2015. If Takehara wins however we suspect the Heavyweight title will become vacant rather than a third bout between him and current champion Kyotaro Fujimoto (10-1, 6).
For Ishida the opportunity to fight Fujimoto a second time, following a narrow decision loss in a non-title 8 rounder earlier 8 year, seems to be his real desire. Sadly for Kotatsu a recent stoppage loss to Fujimoto seems to take him out of the running for another title shot.
The bout, as suspected, will take place in Osaka at the Sumiyoshi Ward Center however surprisingly it won't take place on a New Year's Eve show, instead it will be on December 27th, unfortunately this gives us no hint at all about the much rumoured Osaka New Year's Eve card. Hopefully new on that will break shortly as time is running out on the year which now has only has about 8 weeks left.
