Over the weekend we saw the announcement of a the brilliant Super Flyweight triple header, featuring the rematch between Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (42-4-1, 38) [ศรีสะเกษ นครหลวงโปรโมชั่น] and Nicaraguan great Roman Gonzalez (46-1, 38), the all Mexican clash between Juan Francisco Estrada (35-2, 25) to face Carlos Cuadras (36-1-1, 27) and the US debut of Japanese sensation Naoya Inoue (13-0, 11) [井上 尚弥] against American Antonio Nieves (17-1-2, 9). With the show taking place on September 9th in California.
Today the bout was officially announced in Japan with Inoue, and Gonzalez, attending a press conference to announce the show with representatives from the Ohashi gym and Teiken.
Although the bout was known about before the press conference we did see confirmation that Inoue would have his bout shown on Fuji TV, though it's unclear if it will be shown live. It's also unclear whether the Gonzalez bout will be shown by the Japanese broadcaster.
At the press conference Gonzalez stated his plan was to score a KO and reclaim the title he lost to Srisaket. As for Inoue he seemed to be genuinely excited to make his American debut ant to announce himself on the US stage. He wants to impress and stated he was looking for a KO and an exciting contest.
According to those in Japan the bout is to set up an Inoue Vs Gonzalez bout, but if that's too take place it will have to be next, with Inoue expected to out grow the Super Flyweight division in the very near future.
