Earlier this month we reported that Yoshihiro Kamegai (25-2-1, 22) would return to the US for his 6th bout in the country as he takes on former 2-time world title challenger Alfonso Gomez (24-6-2, 12). Today we were informed of some specific details regarding that bout.
Unsurprisingly it will be scheduled for 10 rounds. This was always likely to be the case with both men being too established to battle in an 8 rounder and with no title up for grabs it did seem unlikely they would have a 12 round bout.
The more surprising bit of news was regarding the weight of the bout with the contest being signed not as a Welterweight bout, as we had assumed, but instead at a contracted 150lbs. The weight isn't likely to be an issue for either man and is in fact only 1lb less than the weight Kamegai weighed for his last bout, a 4th round TKO against Oscar Godoy last December. For Gomez it's ½lb lighter than he was for his most recent bout, a decision win over Ed Paredes last July.
