We have been informed by a reliable source that exciting Filipino Ben Mananquil (10-0-2, 2) and China's fast improving Xiang Jing (7-3-2, 1) have fought to a split decision draw in their battle for the WBO Asia Pacific Flyweight title.
The bout, which took place in China on Friday, was described as a "thrilling battle" by our source who seemed to hint that the Filipino fighter was unfortunate not to get to get the win.
Although the full details on the bout are sketchy we were told the scores were 114-114, 113-112 and 112-113 giving a split draw. Unfortunately until video is available we don't imagine we'll be able to say, for sure, quite what happened though our source did indicate there was several knockdowns and great action from both men.
For Mananguil this will have felt like another unfortunate trip with his last fight abroad being his controversial contest with Kwanpichit OnesongChaigym in Thailand. Many felt that bout should have resulted in an opening opening round TKO victory for the Filipino fight. Incidentally that bout also resulted in a draw, albeit a technical draw.
