Today fans in China saw the first of two cards as part of the CCTV5 Lunar New Year event. The chief support bout from the card was an IBF Inter-Continental Heavyweight title fight with international appeal as Frenchman Carlos Takam (34-3-1, 26) took on Polish puncher Marcin Rekowski (17-5, 14).
The bout looked like an interesting one on paper, though on where Takam was the clear favourite. Afterall the Frenchman had been in with a relative who's who and had proven himself as a very credible fighter on the fringes of the world title scene.
The Frenchman showed his class early taking the opening round, but had to prove his toughness in round 2 when he took a monster shot late in the round. In round 3 Takam scored a knockdown, with Rekowski recovering to his feet.
Although Rekowski had showed his toughness in round 3 he was unable to see off round 4 as Takam scored a KO of the year contender that sent the Pole face planting the canvas, and forced the referee to immediately wave the bout off.
Thankfully after, what seemed like an eternity, Rekowski did come to, but not until after we had had some worrying moments that had worried everyone, including Takam and the referee.
