Earlier this week we were informed that little known Filipino Lito Dante (9-4-3, 5) was given the biggest opportunity of his career so far.
The opportunity will see the 25 year old travel to South African to face unbeaten local fighter Siyabonga Siyo (8-0, 4) for the WBA International Minimumweight title on August 14th as an under-card bout on a Sijuta promoted card in Eastern Cape.
Coming in to the bout Dante hasn't set the world alight in his career, which dates back 5 years. He has been in with some promising domestic opponents but has gone 0-3 against unbeaten fighters and has only beaten a trio of fighters with winning records, including a win last time out against Oliver Gregorio.
Whilst Dante hasn't set pulses racing the same could also be said for Siyo however the local fighter is unbeaten since his debut back in July 2012 and has already claimed his first regional title, the WBA Pan African Minimumweight belt. With that belt around his waist it's clear he's viewing this bout as a step up and a step towards a possible WBA ranking later in the year.
Sadly given the locale of the fight it's unlikely that it will be streamed though we would like to wish Dante the best of look in a bout that could help kick start his faltering career.
