It can be hard at times to get excited about the bigger weight fighters in Japan. Other than Ryota Murata nobody has really managed to make headlines or get people talking about them. One man with the potential to change that is the explosive Koki Tyson Maebara (9-1-1, 9) who impressed again today as he blew out Thai visitor Kungsuk Sor Sompong (0-2).
The heavy handed 22 year old Maebara needed just 2 rounds to see off the Thai in what was essentially a title prelude for the southpaw destroyed who was left in agony following a straight left from the once beaten Japanese fighter.
Whilst the result was expected we were interested in comments made by Maebara after the fight with the youngster stating that he was getting an OPBF title fight in December.
From what we understand Maebara has seemingly got his eyes on the winner of the up coming OPBF/Japanese Middleweight title between defending champion Akio Shibata and Yasuyuki Akiyama, who face off on August 8th. It appears that bout hasn't yet been signed and sealed but Maebara and his team seem confident of getting the bout sorted.
