Back in 1976 a farce took place in Japan as boxing greatest ever star Muhammad Ali took on Japanese wrestling icon Antonio Inoki. The idea was to find out if boxing was better than wrestling and whether the top boxer would beat the top wrestler in a fight. The farce occurred because of the bizarre rules that the fight was held under, which essentially limited Inoki's strengths and wrestling holds. As a result Inoki kicked Ali's for the better part of 15 rounds, whilst Ali tried to dance and avoid the power foot of the Japanese wrestler.
Sadly Ali's recent passing has seen the bout get a lot of coverage as Japan paid it's respects to Ali, and Inoki himself said some lovely words about the former boxing great.
Today it was announced that another bout would be held under the same sort of rules.
The bout this time will see Japanese MMA fighter Kiyoshi Tamura face off against boxer Elvis Moyo (4-5-2, 1), from Zimbabwe. The fight, of course won't have the intrigue of the Ali Vs Inoki fight but will almost certainly be less of a farce than the original bout, which was viewed by an incredible audience.
For those who haven't seen some of the Ali Vs Inoki bout, there is some footage below
