Tomorrow Japanese fans at the Korakuen Hall will get a treat as national Bantamweight champion Kentaro Masuda (24-7, 13) [益田 健太郎] faces off against old adversary Yu Kawaguchi (25-7, 12) [川口 裕] in a potential Japanese FOTY contender. Today the two men took part in the weigh in for their showdown and both made weight at their first attempt.
On the scales Masuda was around 117.75lbs, comfortably under the limit whilst Kawaguchi was bang on the limit at 118lbs.
For Masuda the bout seems to be his personal next step, with an OPBF title fight on his mind if he can over-come Kawaguchi for a second time. He hopes that he'll be able to claim the OPBF title then move towards a world title fight before his career ends.
For Kawaguchi the bout is one of revenge with the challenger looking to avenge a 2014 loss to Masuda and become the Japanese champion at the second time of asking, having previously been the OPBF title holder.
For fans interested in this one it will be aired on Fuji TV in the near future, but there isn't yet a set date for that broadcast.
