Hardcore fans of Japanese boxing may have been aware of a scheduled contest between two highly ranked Japanese Welterweights. The bout, between Koshinmaru Saito (20-6-1, 11) and Kengo Nagashima (14-11-2, 11) wasn't a huge bout but did look like it was going to be a very interesting one and one that could well have decided the next Japanese title challenger.
Sadly we've got to report that Nagashima has been pulled from the bout with an official statement coming from Kadoebi explaining that Nagashima wasn't able to compete due to poor physical condition. Kadoebi have apologised to all the fans who feel let down by this, especially considering that the bout was arranged for December 17th.
Misako, the promoters of the show, have done a good job in securing a replacement for Nagashima and from what we understand Saito will now be fighting Filipino fighter Arnel Tinampay (21-16-1, 7). The Filipino is 1-2 in Japan though could well have been 3-0 and is best known for wins over Yosuke Kirima, in Singapore, and Shoma Fukumoto, in Japan. Although not a world beater Tinampay is a very credible opponent for Saito and has never been stopped despite fighting various recognisable fighters including Sirimongkol Singwancha, Yodsanan Sor Nanthachai, Vitaliy Demyanenko and Daniel Dawson.
Whilst it's a shame Saito won't be fighting Nagashima credit needs to go to Misako, Saito and Tinampay for sorting out this bout with such short notice.
