Earlier today fans in Osaka got the chance to see Japan's former 2-weight world champion Kazuto Ioka (15-1, 9) take part in a public practice session ahead of his world title prelude against Jean Piero Perez (20-7-1, 14) on New Years Eve.
The session saw a more explosive Ioka sparring 3 rounds with stablemate Sho Ishida (17-0, 9), and it seems clear that Ioka is beginning to fill into a fully fledged Flyweight rather than a blown up Light Flyweight. He looked like he had clearly worked on strength, power and speed and was concentrating on correcting his flaws, flaws of which have been on show in recent bouts.
Whilst it's clear that Ioka is disappointed not to be fighting for a world title to close out the year it does seem like the fighter is proud of being part of a New Years Eve show for the 4th successive year and from what we understand it will be something he will be trying to continue through his career.
