Just over a week ago we reported a deal had been signed for Japanese warrior Yoshihiro Kamegai (27-3-2, 24) [亀海喜寛] to battle Puerto Rican icon Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33) in a bout for the WBO Light Middleweight title.
Yesterday the two men attendeda press conference to officially announce the bout.
The press conference saw both men talk about the up coming bout and take part in a face-to-face, which showed that Kamegai was the naturally bigger fighter, and he did look to have more than the reported 2" height advantage.
Cotto admitted that Kamegai was a "tough fighter" but that he had "victory on his mind", in what will be his first bout since a November 2015 loss to Saul Alvarez. As for Kamegai he showed a lot of respect to Cotto, and stated that he had been a "fan" of Cotto and that it was an "honour" to face him. He accepted that his English wasn't great but that he was looking to have a "very entertaining fight", something we've come to expect of the Teiken man.
For fans interested in watching this one, it's been confirmed as a HBO telecast in America and that Boxnation will show it in the UK,
