With all of the boxing attention turned on Las Vegas for this weekend we sadly saw a story pass us by. That story was the one regarding Johnriel Casimero (19-2, 11) losing his IBF Light Flyweight title yesterday after coming in grossly over the 108lb Light Flyweight limit.
Casimero, who began his reign in February 2012 when he beat Luis Alberto Lazarte, was expected to make the 4th defence of his title later today as he takes on Colombia's Mauricio Fuentes (16-2, 10) but unfortunately he came in at 113.25lbs and was subsequently stripped of the title.
If Fuentes goes on to win the title will belong to the Colombian, if Casimero wins the belt will remain vacant. As part of Casimero's punishment he will also be forced to wear heavier gloves, a serious punishment at this weight where bigger gloves slow the punches of a fighter, slows the movement of a fighter and can also take it's toll on the fighters stamina.
Even with the punishment we're struggling to see how Casimero loses here but with his title gone he may now struggle to get a meaningful fight, especially at home.
