There is currently a story coming out of South Korea that suggest that there will a contest on March 15th between Jaesung Lee (16-3-2, 9) and Takuya Watanabe (20-4-1, 8) in Dalseong, South Korea.
Whilst that story doesn't sound far fetched at all. Both men are of course a similar weight, similar experience and the such the strange thing about the story is that the rumour suggest they will be fighting for an OPBF title.
Interestingly the story does actually make a lot of sense. Firstly both men are ranked in the top 10 by the OPBF. Although Lee is ranked at Super Bantamweight, where he is #1, and Watanabe is at Super Featherweight, where he is ranked 9, the story suggests they will be meeting in the middle at Featherweight. Whilst that perhaps seems a little strange both men are genuinely about to make the 126lb weight class with out any issues. Just 2 fights ago Watanabe was 125.5lbs whilst Lee has fought as high as Lightweight.
The only problem in the story about them fighting for an OPBF belt is that Hisashi Amagasa is still the champion and we don't imagine Amagasa will be giving up the title any time soon.
What we're expecting is that Lee and Watanabe will fight but the winner will merely receive a ranking at Featherweight and in fact the bout will take place a little bit above the Featherweight limit. This would possibly serve as an opportunity to create a #1 contender for the winner of Hisashi's next defense, which is expected to be just 9 days later.
If all goes to plan then this cared will be televised on MBC Sports+ in Korea.
