Earlier today Japanese fans got a trio of title bouts in Sanda. The lowest profile of those bouts saw Mika Iwakawa (6-4-1, 2) [岩川 美花] claim the OPBF female Light Flyweight title, as she scored a 3rd round TKO win against the horribly over-matched Nonggig Sithjaanart (13-7-1, 2), from Thailand.
The Japanese local took control before the end of the opening round and in round 2 seemed to make it clear that she could hurt the Thai at any point, dropping her twice in the round and tightening her grip on the contest.
With the Thai struggling to even get a foot hold in the bout it seemed clear that the contest wasn't going to last long. That proved to be the case moments later when Nongig was hurt with a body shot part way through round 3. That was enough to force the referee to save Nongig who was out classed.
Despite the win from Iwakawa we'll be honest and state she will have to improve drastically if she's wanting to become a world champion in the near future.
