Tomorrow fight fans in Tokyo will get the chance to see OPBF Super Featherweight champion Masayuki Ito (18-1-1, 8) [伊藤 雅雪] defending his title against Filipino challenger Ernie Sanchez (15-7-1, 6). The bout, which will be televised by Fuji TV over the weekend on tape delay, will be Ito's second defense of the title whilst Sanchez will be adding the Japanese stamp to his passport, which already includes stamps from Indonesian the US, Mexico, Russia and South Korea.
Today those two men took part in their weigh in.
On the scales Ito weighed in, first time, at 130lbs bang on the limit, and looked in brilliant condition. Notably however Sanchez was unable to make weight on his first attempt, coming in more than 1.5lbs over the limit. He was however able to shed that weight within an hour and eventually came in at 130lbs, just like Ito had.
Although on paper this is a mismatch, with the world ranked Ito a clear favourite, Sanchez has faced the better competition and has been in with recently crowned world champion Oscar Valdez. Suggesting that whilst his record isn't great he hasn't been protected or losing to poor fighters.
