Unbeaten Japanese youngster Kazuto Ioka (14-0, 9) has announced some of his plans for the up coming year as he resumed gym work.
The WBA Light Flyweight champion is currently expecting to return to the ring in May to make the 4th defense of his world title. Having made 3 defenses of the belt in 2013 we'd not be shocked if he looked to keep a similar sort of schedule this year with a fight in April, then a fight in late summer or early Autumn and then another bout on New Years Eve.
As well that Ioka also announced that he'd like to unify this year and perhaps end the year with a title fight at Flyweight as he attempts to become a 3-weight world champion.
Although no opponents have been named for the upcoming fight of Ioka we don't imagine him lacking options. With TBS money behind him we're expecting him with an "easy" challenger in May followed by a unification fight in his second bout of the year before moving up for the year ending contest. To us it seems likely he'd be eyeing up a rematch Akira Yaegashi for the Flyweight title, though there may be other options as December is a long way away.
Whatever Ioka chooses to do it'll be fun to watch him and see if he can reach the heady heights that some have claim he's capable of. Currently a 2-weight world champion the possibility is that he could possibly claim 4 divisional titles by the time he retires.
