According to a number of sources in Indonesia boxing legend and former 3-time IBF Super Flyweight champion Ellyas Pical (20-5-1, 11) was taken to hospital last week following several days of chest issues. Those issues have seen Pical begin to recieve treatment at the RS Jantung Harapan Kita, also known as the National Cardiovascular Center Harapan Kita.
Thankfully the report suggests that althoiugh Pical is suffering from a serious heart problem, said to be Cardiovascular disease, he is showing real signs of improvement since beginning hospital treatment on Saturday.
Although currently in the Harapan Kita hospital he did begin his treatment in a hospital in Serpong, but it seems he was transferred to a more specialised treatment facility which has began to help him in a notable fashion.
Although rekatively unknown in the west Pical was heavy handed Indonesian fighter who became Indonesia's first world boxing champion and during the 1980's he was a star of the ring, with his bouts being held in massive stadium and having ridiculouysly large crowds. During the 1980's he claimed the IBF Super Flyweight title 3 times, beating Ju Do Chin for the first of those titles in 1985, before losing it to Cesar Polanco in 1986 then regaining 5 months later from Polanco before having a final reign that began in 1988 when he beat Tae Il Chang.
Although his career wasn't a major story in the west he did fight in the US, making his sole American apearance in 1989, and fought notable fighters like Wayne Mulholland, Khaosai Galaxy and Greg Richardson during his career.
Interestingly the former star was in the ring just over a year ago, taking part in a televised exhibition with Feras Taborat on a major Indonesian card healind by Daud Yordan.
