Last week we reported that IBF ranked Super Flyweight Go Onaga (25-2-2, 18) would be facing Jonas Sultan (9-2, 5) on November 15th. Yesterday Onaga did indeed confirm that fight at a press conference in Okinawa, in which he laid down his schedule for the next 13 months.
The Ohashi gym fighter stated that Sultan would be his next opponent and that next year he would hoping to get himself an OPBF title fight, with that bout penciled in for March and a world title bout for next October.
Onaga, a former Japanese title challenger, does appear full of confidence heading into his bout with Sultan however that contest is not a foregone conclusion and Sultan really could be a banana skin. For Onaga to be looking so far forward may well be a major mistake, however we can't complain about his confidence.
Interestingly it would seem like the 35 year old veteran has let something slip, and suggest that Takuma Inoue (5-0, 1) will be vacant the OPBF Super Flyweight title by next March. It's not a huge shock, given that Inoue is likely to be aiming for a world title by summer next year, but it is still notable for Onaga to let that one slip so publicly.
