Earlier today the WBC sent out one of their many e-mails, this time it included the rankings for March and the monthly Fighter of the Month and the honorary mention.
The fighter of the month award was won by Kazakhstan's destructive Gennady Golovkin (32-0, 29) who retained his WBC Middleweight interim title along with his IBO and WBA "super" title when he stopped Martin Murray in 11 rounds on February 21st in Monaco. The bout was, in some ways, the most impressive of Golvokin's career as he battered the tough Murray under Luis Pabon was eventually forced to save the Englishman who had been down 3 times. Although highly impressive from Golovkin we have seen some users on forums slate Golovkin for numerous issues, thankfully the WBC weren't so critical of the destructive and popular Kazakh.
The honorary mention for the month was made towards WBC Minimumweight champion Wanheng Menayothin (37-0, 12) who defended his title for the first time as he took a wide decision over the previously unbeaten Jeffrey Galero of the Philippines. Early on Galero looked like a talented boxer-mover but by the end of the bout Wanhang had walked him down and taken a clear decision in an impressive and relatively 1-sided contest.
We'd like to congratulate both "GGG" and Wanheng on their achievements over the last month.
