In October 2016 we saw the popular Gakuya Furuhashi (19-8-1, 9) [古橋 岳也] suffer a 10th round TKO loss to Yasutaka Ishimoto in a battle for the Japanese Super Bantamweight title. It was Furuhashi's first stoppage loss and his 3rd defeat in 5 bouts as his career looked like it was heading to the scrap heap.
Today however Furuhashi kept his career alive as he scored a 3rd round KO against the limited Masajiro Honda (6-9, 4) [本田 正二郎].
The exciting Furuhashi started fast and quickly dropped Honda, as if to say "I'm not done yet". Honda recovered from the first knock down but it was clear he was going to struggle to survive against against the hungry and aggressive Furuhashi.
In the second round Honda was again down and this time he struggled to make it out of the round as Furuhashi continued to press for the stoppage. Honda earned some credit to see out the round, but was stopped in round 3 after being dropped by a body shot from Furuhashi, this time staying down for he 10 count.
Although the win won't put Furuhashi back in the title picture it does keep his career alive, and given his style and his fan friendly bouts that's a good thing!
