Earlier today Japanese fans in Koga got the chance to see a Middleweight bout between former world title challenger Makoto Fuchigami (23-11, 13) [淵上 誠] and the 2015 Japanese Rookie of the Year runner up Brandon Lockhart Shane (7-5, 6).
The bout, unsurprisingly, ended with Fuchigami stopping the Japanese based American fighter in the 3rd round, with Shane lacking the skills to cope with the capable and experience Fuchigami.
Following the fight Fuchigami was joined in the ring by Japanese Middleweight champion Hikaru Nishida (15-8-1, 7) [西田 光], who seemed to announce that Fuchigami would be his next challenger, with the two men now set to fight on September 14th at the Korakuen Hall.
The bout between Nishida and Fuchigami will be their third meeting and will see Fuchigami attempting to over-come Nishida for the first time, following losses in their previous two bouts. Potentially it could also see Fuchigami reclaiming the Japanese title that he held back in 2010-2012, whilst Nishida will be looking for his first title defense.
