Earlier today we were informed that former world title challenger Atushi Kakutani (15-4-1, 8) would be making his ring return on April 29th at the Sangyo Shinko Center in Sakai, Osaka.
At the moment Kakutani hasn't had his opponent publicly announced. What we do know however is that the bout will headline the first of two cards at the same venue, with the second of the cards to feature the WBA female world title bout between unbeaten challenger Nana Yoshikawa (4-0, 2) and defending champion Anabel Ortiz (16-3, 3).
Kakutani is best known for his 2013 WBC Light Flyweight world title bout in Mexico City against Adrian Hernandez. In that bout Kakutani came up short, losing a 4th round TKO, though did manage to score a shock knockdown of the champion in the opening round. As well as that bout Kakutani holds a notable win over the dangerous Rey Loreto though has been stopped in a round by Warlito Parrenas and has also been beaten in Japanese Super Flyweight title bout by Teiru Kinoshita.
It was thought that Kakutani was going to be getting a title bout in the first half of 2015 though, for whatever reason, that never came to fruition and it seems likely that this bout's aim is on keeping him sharp for a possible title bout in the fall. With that in mind we're expecting the Japanese fighter to face a limited Thai opponent in what should be a straight forward win for the Japanese fighter who is currently ranked in the top 10 by both the JBC and the OPBF.
