Earlier today Japanese fans saw former WBC Flyweight champion Toshiyuki Igarashi (22-2-2, 11) [五十嵐 俊幸] claim a wide decision win over Filipino foe Joel Taduran (7-3-1, 1).
Coming into this bout Igarashi was making a move to drop back down to Flyweight, with this bout being made at 115lbs. Although cutting more weight than he had in recent bouts Igarashi looked far too goo through out, using his skills, speed and power to make Taduran look like a rank novice.
From the opening round Igarashi found a home for his punches, and although Taduran never seemed too badly hurt the Filipino always seemed to struggle to land much of note himself, other than in a surprisingly competitive round 3.
Come the final round the arena knew who had won, with Igarashi essentially winning at a canter, something that the judges agreed on scoring the bout 100-90, 99-91 and 99-92.
