Earlier this week news broke from Kazakhstan that former boxer Firuza Sharipova (10-1, 5) [фируза шарипова] has had a child.
The fighter, who has certainly been an interesting one to follow from the Kazakh news stories about her, had announced her retirement from boxing last year, back in September, before announcing this past April that she would be continuing with her career. It seems that somewhere in that time window she had a child, though it appears that no one has yet to reveal or announce the details of the child's birth or gender.
The fighter has also set a date for her next bout, which is expected to come on July 4th against against Russian fighter Sofya Ochigava, in a bout for the lightly regarded IBA female Lightweight title, which Ochigava won this past March.
Whilst Sharipova can be a fun fighter to mock, due to the never ending stream of tabloid like stories that do come out regarding her, it's still good news to see that she does seemingly have her head back on boxing and it'll great to see her back in the ring. She has the type of profile in Kazakhstan to help inspire a generation of female fighters, and we really do hope that she uses that platform for positive, not just to get herself in the Kazakh newspapers.
