Last December a lot of fight fans got their first look at talented Filipino youngster Joebert Alvarez (14-1-1, 6) who fought twice in Mexico. The second of those bouts saw him give the talented Juan Francisco Estrada a very tough and close bout, one that was much tougher than the scorecards suggested.
It's now been announced that Alvarez will look to add another stamp to his passport as he's set to make his US debut on October 23rd in Florida.
The bout will see the talented 25 year old face off against big punching American Daniel Lozano (13-3, 10), who has notably lost his last 2 bouts including a decision defeat to David Carmona.
On paper this looks like a really good chance for Alvarez, who is known as the "Little Pacquiao", to increase his name value though it's also a tricky match up with Lozano not only being a big puncher but also a Super Flyweight, whilst Alvarez is a Light Flyweight-come-Flyweight. A win however shouldn't be ruled out from the young Filipino who did show real ability against Estrada, despite what the score-cards may have said.
Sadly this will be Alvarez's first bout since the Estrada contest in last 2014 and the long lay off may show it's self here with the Filipino perhaps needing a few rounds to get his timing and movement correct. If the ring rust shows however then Estrada may find himself in for a very rough return to action.
For those who missed Alvarez's bout with Estrada we've included it below.
