Earlier today we were informed that former world title challenger Daiki Kaneko (22-5-3, 15) [金子 大樹] would be returning to the ring on June 4th in a 10 round bout set to take place at the Korakuen Hall. We were not only informed of when and where Kaneko would be fighting next, but also who he would be fighting, Ribo Takahata (12-6-1, 4) [高畑里望].
For Kaneko the bout is a really significant one given that he had a 2015 to forget, with a pair of decision losses. He won his first bout of this year, stopping the over-matched Kazuya Soma, but this is a significant step up from Soma and a genuine test of what he has left.
As for Takahata the bout could see him move towards a title opportunity of his own, if he can over-come Kaneko. Coming in to this one Takahata has had mixed fortunes of his own with a 5-5 record in his last 10, though that has included losses to Kenichi Ogawa, Shingo Eto and Rikki Naito, whilst he holds a fecent TKO win over the then touted Johnreil Maligro.
