Just a few short hours ago Japanese fans at the Korakuen Hall saw the world class Daiki Kaneko (21-3-3, 14) make light work of the usually durable Cirilo Espino (19-14-3, 12).
Espino, from the Philippines, had only been stopped once in his previous 35 bouts but failed to live with the strength, power and skills or Kaneko who dropped him in round 3. The shots of Kaneko all looked so much stronger than those of Espino and they also took effect, not just in the knockdown but in facial damage that Espino began to suffer.
Unfortunately for the Filipino it was the facial damage, namely a cut to his left eye, that result in him being stopped in round 4. Prior to the stoppage it was looking like Kaneko was beginning to go through the gears.
It's fair to say that after this win that Kaneko will likely be turning his attention to title fights and the OPBF should be his focus. If a title bout cannot be secured we'd suggest that a bout between Kaneko and Masayuki Ito would be worth consider. A win over Ito would likely get Kaneko some notable world rankings and with Ito recently beating Masao Nakamura it would clearly define which Japanese fighter is the #3 guy at 130lbs in Japan, obviously the winner would be behind WBA champion Takashi Uchiyama and WBC champion Takashi Miura.
